First Pro Am Tournament at Al Badia Golf Club
A total of 68 players participated in the first PRO AM Tournament at Al Badia Golf Club on April 29, sponsored by The National newspaper and TNT.
Following a format of 2 Best Stableford Scores to count per hole in a 4 player team, participants headed in the course, full of optimism to battle for glory. In third place, the efforts of the team of Doug McConnell, Bill Buchanan, Yousef Al Reda and their pro Ross Bain from Dubai Golf, finished on a score of 85 points. Straitline Cargo Team consisted of Dave Clark, Terry Belton, Kevin Heslop and their pro Simon Paynre, representing Tower Links, won on a countback with the third place team. The overall winners of the day came from the Al Badia team, Peter Shilling, Neil Grant, Tony Billingham and Al Badia’s very own pro Jamie Anton had an opening 9 of 46 points which set them on their way to victory— a well deserved team to be crowned as the Al badia Pro-Am Champions for 2010.
Not to be outshone, several players made their mark in the on course competitions. Nearest the pins were won by an Al Badia Golf Club member, Brett Armstrong and Peter shaw with shots to 3 feet and 5 feet respectively. Great longest drive performance was won by Shravan Khanna while the Straightest drive was grabbed by Steve Lee.
The tournament ended with a fine feast at the Shaheen Terrace of the Al Badia Golf Club for the participants and the main sponsors of the tournament, being The National and TNT.
